JUMP!

OMG. When I came home tonite, from my last day at MIT, DH had a funny surprise waiting for moi. He's been taking classes on video editing at the local access TV station. He made a short video of Patches calle "JUMP!", and it was so funny. I'm hoping we can get it up on google video or YouTube.

It really made me laugh, and I was feeling sad about leaving my buddies at MIT.

oof !

There's hardly been any time for blogging!

This weekend I had to take patches to the vet (annual checkup, and NO she's still not speaking to me!), then caught a movie with DH (Dan in Real Life). In between, lots of errands and chores. On Sunday, I joined a few new friends in Salem for the annual Christmas in Salem walking tour of historic homes. Some very fancy places out there. I got a few decorating tips.... monogrammed silver goblets, for instance! They go with everything!! ;-)

On the train I've been working on a knitting project I can't blog about at the moment as it will ruin someone's christmas if I do!

I've also embarked upon a top secret xmas project for DH.

This HARDLY leaves time for working on my ravelry page, now does it!

Close encounters....

... of the CAT kind!

This weekend, DH and I had a lovely new storm door installed. It was not cheap, but we think it is going to save us big $$ on our heating bill. The front door is old and very pretty, but lets a big draft in. We're also putting in new "sweeps" along the bottom. Hermetically sealed is the effect we're going for.

I was showing DH the features of the new door, when out of nowhere that rough looking orange tabby came running up the steps and nearly squeaked in. Patches happened to be loitering nearby, and they locked eyes.

Let's run that photo again, so folks can get a better look.

Whoaaaa! I guess Monsieur L'Orange isn't quite ready for his close-up. Simmer down, buddy.

Here's a peek at sweater number two not-fully-frogged. I frogged one row, and have five more to go, which I think I'll tackle tonite after dinner:

Benvenuti di Roma!

Ciao amici!

Boston worker bee is bloggin to you live from Rome! DH and I got here this afternoon, starving and tuckered. We're not quite up to speed yet, meal/time wise, but we're planning on getting into that tomorrow.

The weather here is terrific. Its cloudy and looks like it may rain, but warm enough to wear sandals and skirts. I got quite a bit done on sweater number two. I wish I could upload a photo. I managed to get thru security at Logan and Frankfurt without getting my knitting needles taken away. Hurrah!

Tonite we going to wander around and stay awake as long as we can. Tomorrow is a big day of eating and soaking in the atmosphere!

Speaking of DH....

The guy never ceases to amaze me. He just alerted me to the fact that the Harvard Wellness Center will be offering the following new course to staff, students, etc.:

MINDFUL PRACTICE:
LEARNING TO KNIT FOR WELLNESS
Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm
CWHC Resource Room, 75 Mt. Auburn Street, 2E, HUHS
Oct 3 - Oct 24

Who knew? I wonder if knitting also counts as exercise!

The course isn't yet posted on the University Health Services website, but I'll keep an eye out and post a link when it is, just in case we have any potential Harvard knitters lurking that need encouragement.

How many times has your DH told you this?

This week's New Yorker has something we knitters can relate to:

Busy weekend

Didn't this used to be a knitting blog?

Why yes! For the first time in a while, I found the where-with-all to work on my sweater. According to previous posts, I'm on the second sleeve. Quite frankly, it has been so long now, I can't remember! Here's a pic:

I don't want to say too much just yet, but DH and I have made considerable progress on our housing thing. There's still some paperwork to wrap up, but we've begun packing and are getting ready to close on our condo and move to our new home! Mama-Bee and Babbo-Bee came down to help us get rid of an old kitchen cabinet, while DH waited around for the glass repairman. Oh, yeah, some punk smashed our windshield early last Sunday morning.

Mom entertained Patches... or was it the other way around?

Wait, is that our Tabby, or a harbor seal??

Greetings from Our Nation's Capitol

While you guys were getting socked with a Nor'easter here in Boston, down in DC we were ALSO getting socked. DH and I can't get a break from this weather, even when we are on vacation. Poor guy takes it pretty personal. He had hoped we would be getting temps in the 60's, but that SO didn't happen.

But we did have a nice time. We stayed in some nice hotels. His great aunt did some italian cooking for us, which was OUTSTANDING.

As it was raining sideways and gusting in the other direction, we spent most of our time indoors at the museums. I took some video, but quite frankly, I've just about given up on getting google video to work in a timely fashion. I want my life back!Sniff!

All the Condo's A Stage....

Sorry for my absence! I had planned to put up a video from a walk I took in the woods in Concord, MA two Saturdays ago. Google video was not cooperating, so I gave up. Then I tried to load a photo from said walk, but got distracted.

DH and I have been working hard at "staging" our condo to sell it (hopefully!) this spring. Weekends normally spent updating my blog have lately been devoted to endless tidying, moving things around, etc, etc.

Check out the "staged" version of my command center...

Pretty nice, eh? The matching ottoman lives in another room for the time being.

In the meantime, I cast on for the second sleeve of my sweater, and done about ten rows. Every row counts, people!

This weekend, DH and I are going to DC this weekend to visit some of his family. I'm hoping to grab a bite to eat at this place.

Movie Mania

DH has got a case of movie mania. He recently watched the three volume "A Personal Journey With Martin Scorsese Through American Movies", and lost no time picking up some of the movies mentioned therein.

For instance, tonite we watched "All that Heaven Allows", with Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman, directed by Douglas Sirk. It was a terrific, visually stunning movie. And if you like technicolor and glamourous 1950's clothes, you'll love this. It was hard not to chuckle at the scene where Jane Wyman's character says to Rock Hudson's: "You want me to be a man!". Ummm, yes Jane, he kind of does!

A few years ago, you may have seen "Far From Heaven", with Julianne Moore. It was directed by Todd Haynes, and was an homage to the movies Douglas Sirk made in the 1950's. The costuming in this movie is unbelievable. I recommend renting this one too!

Heading South

Boston Worker Bee went to St. Pete to visit the in-laws over New Year's weekend. It was a bit of an ordeal getting there an back, but I have to say, it was wonderful to get some sun and warmth. Sadly, there wasn't a whole lot of time for knitting by the pool, but I did make some progress on my spiral rib hat number 2. I'm trying out Debbie Bliss "cashmerino", in a deep red color. I'm allergic to wool, even most blends, but I'm going to give this a try and see what happens.

Stay tuned for a hat photo, in the mean time, I hope these other photos will take away your winter blues.

Holiday cheer, and sleeves!

xmas eve, chez boston worker bee

For god's sake, don't touch her panettone.

Special holiday wishes to Lady S, Children of Herakles, Betty Crocker, MIT SnB, and BWB readers!

I cast on this week for the first sleeve of my sweater. So far, so good!

I'd like to now take this opportunity to show off some of my mom's handiwork. For christmas, she gave me some lovely waffle-knit dishtowels and a matching potholder, that she wove on her loom. Amazing!

I'm off to Florida early (EARLY!!!) Saturday morning to visit my mother-in-law. I'm planning on stopping off at Windsor Button in downtown crossing to see if I can get some yarn to try making another spiral knit hat. The first one I did in alpaca, which stretched terribly after wearing it just two times. Oh, and ummm, then I tried to felt it, and it came out kind of crappy. Back to the drawing board.

Christmas in Rockport

Panoramic View of Rockport Harbor

I thought I'd entertain you with some photos of Rockport. I was up there visiting this weekend. I almost (and I mean ALMOST) finished the front of the sweater. I'm going to try and do that this week, and cast on for the sleeves.

A special holiday greeting to my friend in New Jersey who is studying nursing. Henceforth on this blog you shall be known as "M. Munroe" - HA! I got your holiday card and note - thanks! I loved the photos.

Home sweet home...

Happy Thanksgiving

Boston Worker Bee had a great Thanksgiving. Thanks to our special peeps who trekked through the rain and traffic for turkey dinner at our place: Mama & Babbo, L-squared, and Lil' H & Lil' D.

Mom was wondering what's on my christmas list this year, it's pretty much just knitting stuff. and socks. I have a few projects in mind that I'd like to try using Kid Silk Haze for, which is sold here:

Webs

I could also use a knitting needle holder for my straight needles, and a knitting bag to carry my projects in to and from work. I saw a beautiful silk embroidered knitting bag at Woolcott in Harvard Sq., that looked kind of like this. It was black and white, with some green leaves embroidered on it.

Knitting books and gift certificates to Halcyon Yarn are always welcome!

New York... Part Three

... What the.... HUH?? I bet you're wondering why I'm doing Part Three when I haven't done Part Two. I just posted Part Two

I'm having a little trouble uploading all my NY photos as a group, hence a separate Part Three.

I was really surprised at how much there was to see, botanically speaking, given that it is November. So many of the trees seemed to be peaking in color or still in leaf. The Japanese Garden in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden was aflame. I can't be sure that the fall isn't the best time to see it after all.

Back in the city, I took my DH up to the top of the Empire State Building. He'd never been!!

We also shared some matzo ball soup at a deli across from the Carnegie Deli. Before you fly off the handle, YES, we ate at the Carnegie like good-doobies, but we didn't feel like waiting in line a second time so walked across the street to this place. Yikes - that is a BIG matzo ball! We ate the whole thing. I could have polished it off myself, but I try to be nice and share.

We also spent a lovely morning walking around the grounds of the Cloisters.

So it ends. Busy weekend ahead.I'd like to continue working on my sweater. That's what I'd rather be doing. Ta!
